Challenge Completed

Well, I’ll tell you what…

I had a nice post made and ready to go that was going to feature a video blog accompaniment to let you know, as modestly as possible, that:

I COMPLETED the challenge!

27 days of work, no $pending, and I’ve got $20.87 banked!

Anyways, I’ve never made so little in my life, for the amount of work I did, but that’s not the point! Hopefully, this represents the beginning of a successful online business.

And about that video… well Youtube decided to go nuts. I tried to upload it 4 times. No luck. So, lucky you, my flapping lips are absent from this post.

But, I warn you now… as soon as I figure out what’s wrong, I’m gonna post that video!

Day 19 - Still Kickin’

Well the 30 Day Challenge more than half-way through now. Day 19 and still kickin’!

Frog Kitten

Here’s my flash update:

  • I WON the video competition! Alright, so I got second place… sort of like winning. Thanks to everyone who rated my video and Youtube and supported me! I have been awarded a free year’s membership to a marketing group with a high membership cost that I have been wanting to be a part of very badly. I feel this is probably the most important thing that has happened to me this year!

  • I’m now Team Captain of Team Youtube! Our originator is not totally excited over how things are going so he promoted me to “lead” the team. He obviously does not know me that well…
  • I developed an official Tool bar for the Challenge! People actually believe I know how to program!
  • I’ve had Ice-cream every night for a week! I feel horrible!
  • I have 144 new subscribers to Tech-Bites.com! It’s the most exciting artificial inflation I’ve ever experienced!
  • I‘m driving Aaron nuts with exclamation points!!!1! Big time!

So there you have it. If you’ve been wondering what I’m been up to, wonder no more. I’ll update again later.

Garrett Cleans his Room

So it was starting to get just a little out of hand…

I knew something had to be done.
So in our time-tested family tradition
I donned the garb of our ancestors and
gutted my room in roughly 30 seconds…

Before I could go on however, I knew I had
to devise a way to hang my guitar on the wall

… it just had to be done.

Finally, after five minutes and much sweat,
my room was now a pleasant eBay picture-
taking station and music studio.

If it weren’t for my sister though, it could
easily have taken 10 minutes or more.

Thank you… sister of mine.

New Look, New Purpose

Originally, I had decided to discontinue the “Taking Your Life Online” series and changing the direction of this blog. If you want to see the series completed, please let me know, otherwise I will assume it’s not really important to those of you who do read my blog.

So what am I trying to say here? I want this blog to have information that you CAN’T find anywhere else on the web, and for that to happen, it needs to be about me. So the following items will be my new focal points for creating posts:

  • My Music: Thoughts on music and, of course, delivering the original music I have written (as they are recorded). If I feel particularly daring I may post some demos of songs that haven’t yet been recorded properly as well!

  • My Tech Recommendations: No more long articles about various products, that’s easily found on the net already. Instead, only my recommendations and opinions. I may still write articles, occasionally, if I’m passionate enough about it :)
  • My Life: I’m going to begin to try to include more information about the various events going on in my life to help give you a glimpse into what I’m up to when I’m not blogging.

I also hope to increase things like video posts and pod casts in the future.

To keep things simple, I hope you will consider subscribing to my feed by clicking this link or the feed icon at the top of the right column on my site. If your still not using a feed reader for some reason, then I’ve provided one more alternative so that you are, officially, without excuse!

Subscribe to Just A Leaf by Email

There! In all its aged cave man glory, you can now receive my blog posts in your email! This link is now permanently on the side bar as well.

Cya around!

I feel a change in the wind…

Well, it finally happened. I am through with my Windows PC (at least one of them). I’ve made up my mind not to put it off any longer. I’m getting a Mac.

Not only that, but I’m going to get a Mac of the same specs to prove that Apple products (at least computers) are NOT more expensive. My target, right now is the 17″ iMac with 2gb of ram and an Intel Core Duo 2, for under $1,000. That’s including the ever-so-sweet Apple display built into it. In fact, it’s possible that I may be able to snag the 20″ version in this price range. Whoohoo!

In all honesty, I’m not putting any blind faith in the Apple products. If I can ‘t be more productive on it, I’ll be doing the eBay thing again quicker than you can say, “there he goes again!” But I’ve done my homework and I see no reason this would happen, especially with Parallels. (Yes that’s Mac OSX RUNNING Windows Vista… sorry Gates, you’re going to have to do better than that!)
I also plan in altering my blog… maybe drastically. Mainly because I don’t have permalinks and that bugs me. But I may go with giving a standard Blogger template a complete overhaul so I can take advantage of the functionality. Also, with the Mac purchase, you can expect an increase in video posts :).

In other news, I’m making my first bit of income since my departure from my previous job as a web designer/master. Not a lot yet, but I am excited! My new business is almost ready to be launched as well, so stay tuned for that!

My Grandma’s open heart surgery will occupy a good portion of my February, but I plan to be productive while I’m down there supporting her and the rest of my family.

We’ve implemented our new diet (a whole food diet designed to kill the fungus in our bodies) as well as a new bodyweight exercise regiment. I’ll let you know how it goes…

I’m picking back up in the music department as well. My voice still stinks, but I am already hearing a difference thanks to the diet. It really took a hit this Holiday season thanks to the ridiculous amounts of sugared foods I consumed.

All in all, I feel like everything is moving forward right now… and that’s a very good feeling.

Just a Leaf… Photo shoot!

We took a day trip to Yosemite today with some extended family. It was nearly perfect timing for fall colors and we inevitably began takings some pictures. We found a wonderful little leaf along the way and thought it might have album art potential. It’s just a leaf after all, but it made for a few nice pics. Here are a few that turned out pretty good, I think. Of course, the top one has been messed with a bit :)
